Chateau Talbot 2009 Saint Julien, is a wine for special occasions, and receiving a good friend from "over-there" Europe is one of those occasions.
So, I'm cooking grass-fed strip steaks and serving up a conversation-relaxation wine to remember, and music: The Girl with the Flaxen Hair is a good start!
Chateau Talbot 2009 Saint Julien, $69.99-$86.99, 94 points, is more the color of bright, but slightly cloudy Burgundy/pomegranate than Bordeaux/black currant, and trailed transparent around the edge.
The aroma is a delicate violets and forest floor with cedar and hints of sweet cooking spice.
The medium-plus body is acidic and the grainy tannin is smoothly layered and approachable.
The texture of this wine is robustly round, but soft and velvety.
Flavors are a complexity of transition, from red cherry to black and boysenberry with hints of smoke, violets, licorice.
The long finish amplifies the palate and adds spice tones.
