Bogle 2007 Petite Sirah

Bogle 2007 Petite Sirah, $10.99-$12.99, 89 points, appears dark ruby with orange tints and a clear rim.
Not altogether pleasing, the aroma reflects an earthy/leathery tone and I get some red fruit, but it is not offensive either.
Though the winery says black fruit, all I taste is red fruit bound to a medium-plus body with good acidity and unpredictably mellow tannin. Late palate spice reverberates long and refines into black pepper and cayenne.
This is a surprisingly good wine and a great value. Drink as you would any dry red wine (steaks, burgers, pizza, and lamb, will all pair well).
