La Spinetta IL Nero Di Casanova Toscana I.G.T. 2007 Sangiovese

La Spinetta IL Nero Di Casanova Toscana I.G.T. 2007 Sangiovese, $14.53-$18.99, 88+ points, poured a bright red grading toward orange at the typical clear wine ring.
Subtle aromas of strawberry, sweet red cherry, and Oreo cookie were interesting and good.
Medium-bodied (quite dry) with bright acidity, layered persistent tannin, and straight-forward flavors of red cherry, oak, black tea, and cola notes were a wrap.
Finished long on spearmint, a well-balanced 13.5% alcohol, and red pepper.

  1. These wines were at Slow Wine. We were not impressed. Oreo as you note, an oak derivative. Left splinters in my mouth.

    1. John, I was surprised by how tannic this wine still was!

  2. They like oak. Even in their wheelhouse Piemonte reds they are firmly a new wave producer. Too much so, IMO
