Domaine Tempier 2011 Bandol Red Wine,
$33.99-$44.99, 91 points, poured a murky maroon with a sharply contrasted crystalline wine ring at the leggy glass wall.
The perfume aroma was complex with hints of lilac, lavender, black grape, and toast.
Near full-bodied, good acidity, firm supportive tannin, and a dominant grapey flavor with hints of flowers, anise, boysenberry, and marzipan (reminded me of Chateauneuf-du-Pape).
Finished long on the trailing palate with hot white pepper notes.
Though the bottle read '11-14% BY VOL.', I'd be inclined to guess the 14%.
Paired well with my rib-eye, asparagus, and sautéed yellow peppers.
Varietals were Mourvèdre, Grenache, Cinsault, and Carignan.
