Nickel and Nickel Napa Valley 'Harris Vineyard' 2014 Merlot

NHWM's Continuous Search For Worthy Merlot.

Nickel and Nickel Napa Valley 'Harris Vineyard' 2014 Merlot, $53.54-$62.99, 92 points, was an opaque 'abstract' maroon color with a clear wine ring and dense tears.
Aromatic blackberry with nuanced fennel, sandalwood, and cocoa excelled.
Full-bodied with good acidity and fine grainy tannins supported cherry cola, red licorice, and plum flavors.
Finished fair on the trailing palate, slightly sweet red cherry, wood, and a well-balanced 14.1% alcohol.
Paired perfectly with my spice-rubbed rare Angus rib eye.

  1. Did you hear that Shafer are going to discontinue making Merlot?

    1. VG: I did not know that. I have the 2014 in-the-wings. Shafer is consistently a favorite of mine, but as a whole, considering the price of GOOD Merlot, and in general I'm with Miles on Merlot-negativity.
